Ranch History
The two brothers, Paul and Bart, grew up in Holland which is known to be the world's largest acreage of greenhouse farmers. After moving to California in the 1960ís they both went to UC Davis and after earning their degree they moved to Winters where they started their family farm. Turns out Winters is similar to Holland for growing tomatoes in greenhouses. They were able to find a 5,000 sq. ft. greenhouse, dismantled it and moved it to their land in 1974 to begin learning and raising high quality tomatoes. 10 years went by and they decided to pursue their love and passion for farming, eventually making it their fulltime job with the help of Paul's wife, Eva.
Practices
The farm uses conventional farming methods.
Pesticides
Throughout the years, they are working to make their practices more environmentally sustainable. With the help of the greenhouse the Bruins are able to keep out any pesticides and keep the temperature regulated. They have stopped using synthetic pesticides and are in the transition of using organic and mineral based fertilizers.
