Overview

While the seeds of this market were planted years ago, Spring 2009 marked its germination. At that time the Milagro Foundation, Marin City Community Develop Corporation , AIM’s Board of Trustees, and the Gateway Shopping Center came together to discuss the potential of a farmers market to increase Marin City’s access to healthy food and to create a welcoming community hub. AIM had considered a number of sites in Southern Marin and believed that, of all those communities requesting a farmers market, Marin City demonstrated the greatest need for access to fresh food and that the Gateway Shopping Center offered the best location for a vibrant farmers market capable of serving all of Southern Marin. Easy access from Highway 101, excellent public transportation, and an abundance of parking will make the market an effortless morning excursion for both customer and farmer alike. In its first year, the market will run June through September. During this four-month trial period, AIM and its community partners will evaluate the viability of the market and its success at meeting our shared goals. AIM has high hopes for the Marin City Farmers Market.

I’d like to invite you to join us in celebrating the opening of the Marin City Farmers Market at the Gateway Shopping Center! This market has been years in the visionary phase and we’re excited to finally be opening a farmers market that will serve as a gathering place for all of Southern Marin. I hope you come out to celebrate the community, food, talent, and fun and embrace the opportunity to make it your own. We’ve been hard at work and continue to recruit farmers, food purveyors, artisans, and talent that will best fit this market community. We hope to see you there with friends, family, curiosity, adventurous taste-buds, hungry bellies, and your own reusable bags! We can't wait to meet you and feed you, let’s celebrate the harvest!
