Producers: Apply Now to Receive Electronic Benefits from WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program

WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) benefits are switching from paper vouchers to an electronic payment system this year. Every market participant who wishes to accept WIC and Senior FMNP payments from customers must complete this new WIC Farmer Application and submit it to CDPH/WIC. More questions? See our FAQ below.

FAQ

I got authorized by WIC within the last 3 years. Why do I need to apply again?

The new application contains terms and conditions for the new electronic payment system. You cannot accept electronic payment without accepting the new terms and conditions, even if you were authorized in 2024. Once you submit the new application, WIC will start the process to schedule you for updated training and account setup.

How will participating in this program benefit my farm?

Your participation in this program will give you access to WIC and Senior FMNP funds from May through November and WIC-CVB (WIC Cash Value Benefit) funds year-round. This supports community members in need and provides your farm with extra revenue.

What are WIC Cash Value Benefits (WIC-CVB), and how are they different from WIC-FMNP?

WIC-FMNP benefits are given only once a year, while WIC-CVB is a year-round program with much more funding. The new electronic system allows you to accept WIC-FMNP, WIC-CVB, and Senior FMNP funds all through the same payment system.

Do I need any special equipment to accept electronic payments?

You just need a smartphone with internet access and a camera able to scan a QR code.

Does this change how customers purchase food from me?

Yes–it is much easier for everyone! Simply use a smartphone app to scan the QR code on the customer’s card. Their payment will be directly deposited to your bank account. No more trips to the bank to cash checks. You will also be able to charge exact amounts–no need to help customers round their purchase to the $10 paper voucher amount.

What happens if I don’t fill out the new agreement?

If you do not fill out this new agreement, you can no longer accept payment from WIC and Senior FMNP customers.

Is there a deadline to complete the agreement?

You can fill out the agreement at any time, but the sooner you complete the form, the sooner you can connect with these customers.
