CalFresh and Market Match

CalFresh is California’s version of the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps. CalFresh provides low-income households with funds to purchase food.

Market Match is an incentive program which offers CalFresh recipients additional funds for fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farmers markets. Shoppers can double their benefits value when they use CalFresh/EBT at AIM’s farmers markets.

  • Head to the Information Booth at your AIM market.

  • Swipe your EBT card for between $1-$15 and receive that dollar amount in silver EBT tokens.

  • Receive a one-to-one match up to $15 in Market Match purple tokens.

  • Silver tokens can be used to purchase any food for human consumption except hot food. Purple tokens can only be used for fruits and vegetables. See the full list of what you can and cannot buy with EBT.

Market Match is also available at The Rollin’ Root. Simply present your EBT card for payment, and receive 50% off all fruit and vegetables. There is no daily limit on Market Match at The Rollin’ Root.

Market Match is a program of the Ecology Center and is funded in part through the California Department of Food and Agriculture and the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

WIC Program

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a federal program administered in California by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and local WIC offices. The program supports low-to-medium income families with young children by providing nutrition education resources and funds to purchase healthy foods.

WIC participants will be able to use their WIC cards to shop for fresh fruits and veggies at authorized farmers markets! Additionally, WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) funds, previously issued to participants as a booklet of checks, will be loaded directly onto participants' WIC cards. To start using your monthly WIC funds at farmers markets, check if you have the new WIC card, which has a magnetic stripe on the back for grocery store purchases and a QR code on the front for farmers market purchases. If your card only has a magnetic stripe, check with your local WIC agency to get an updated card.

How to use your new card:

  • Find authorized farmers at market; they will have signage.

  • Present your card at checkout.

  • Employee will scan the QR code on your card with a phone app to process payment.

  • Enter your PIN.

Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) supports individuals 60 years of age and older who are on a limited income. SFMNP provides benefits to purchase fresh, unprepared, locally grown produce, cut herbs, and raw honey at Certified Farmers Markets. Please visit the CDFA website to determine if you are eligible for benefits.

Program Update: The SFMNP is going electronic! Benefits, previously issued to eligible seniors as a booklet of checks, will be loaded onto an electronic benefits card. Cards will be distributed to eligible seniors by Local Area Agencies on Aging.

How to use the card:

  1. Find authorized farmers at market, they will have signage.

  2. Present your card at checkout.

  3. Employee will scan the QR code on your card with a phone app to process payment.

  4. Confirm purchase amount.

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is a program funded and administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA).
