The One Big Beautiful Bill’s Impact On The Rollin’ Root Mobile Market

The Rollin' Root Mobile Farmers Market receives over 50% of its operating costs in grant funding through the nutrition education program SNAP-Ed. These grant dollars have enabled us to bring locally grown, seasonal produce to neighborhoods with limited access to fresh foods for the last seven years. As you may know, the recently signed federal One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) eliminates new funding for SNAP-Ed after September 30, 2025.

Losing SNAP-ed means losing critical funding for The Rollin’ Root operations. With this loss, we’ve had to reassess our services, which includes making the difficult decision to end some of our routes. Beginning October 1, 2025, The Rollin’ Root will consolidate its operations to Mondays and Thursdays.

The Rollin’ Root Stop Closures

Starting in October, The Rollin’ Root will no longer be making the following stops.

Marin:

  • Martinelli House, San Rafael

  • Market Day at Marin City Community Services District, Sausalito

  • Bennett House, Fairfax

  • Victory Village, Fairfax

  • Camino Alto, Mill Valley

San Francisco:

  • Bayview

  • New Liberation Community Garden

The Rollin’ Root Updated Route

Starting in October, The Rollin’ Root route will look as follows.

Mondays (remains unchanged):

Thursdays:

Please know these decisions were not made lightly. We carefully reviewed our data and focused on the stops where we consistently had the most customers. We are doing everything we can to continue reaching as many community members as possible with the resources we have.

One Big Beautiful Bill Undermines Nutrition Assistance

SNAP-Ed’s nutrition education equips families to more thoughtfully shop for food and cook nutritious meals. Pairing nutrition education with dollars is a more effective way to improve health and wellbeing. These are concepts and programs that should be integral in the mission of making America healthy again. Instead, they will cease to exist. Less dollars in the pockets of the people who need it most, an end to education to empower families, and less sales for our small producers.

Despite this financial setback, AIM will continue to root itself in educating to work towards a more healthful and equitable food system. It’s core to our mission, and we will continue to move forward despite any setbacks.

Thank you for being such an important part of The Rollin’ Root. We’ve truly enjoyed serving your community and are so grateful for your support.
