Farmers Market Incubator Booth

Empowering emerging farmers of color and local food justice.

The Farmers Market Incubator Booth is a joint investment initiative by AIM (Agricultural Institute of Marin), KTA (Kitchen Table Advisors), and ALBA (Agriculture and Land-Based Training Association) to promote local food justice, create new agricultural businesses, and support beginning farmers.

The Incubator Booth provides $19,770 in financial support for each participant by covering:

  • 12 months of market registration and stall fees

  • $2,500 stipend to cover business expenses

  • One-on-One Technical Assistance throughout the year covering marketing, finance, agricultural best practices guidance, and crop planning for farmers market participation

  • Peer mentorship and peer network building

  • 30 reusable plastic bins for transporting produce

What is the Incubator Booth?

A program that provides free booth space at the Clement St., Hayward, and Grand Lake Farmers Markets to support new farmers launching their businesses. Participants receive marketing support, basic supplies, and one-on-one business mentorship.

How does it work?

Each group stays at one farmers market for 4 months before rotating to the next market location. Within each group, farmers may choose to sell together or alternate weekly appearances based on their needs.

Who participates?

Three cohorts of 2–3 beginning farms rotate booth space at the farmers markets.

The goal:

After completing the year-long rotation, farmers are eligible to apply for a permanent spot at one of AIM’s markets—opening the door for the next group of beginning farmers to step into the Incubator Booths.
