Farmers Market Sales Associate - Alchemist Community Development Corporation
Expected Hourly Commitment: Part-Time, 8 hours/week, non-exempt, potential to increase to 16 hours/week. Seasonal through October but could be year-round if the position expands to markets beyond Meadowview.

Location: The majority of time will be spent staffing a booth at the Meadowview Farmers’ Market (3501 Meadowview Rd, Sacramento, CA 95822) but product and supplies will be picked up and dropped off at the Alchemist Kitchen commissary location at 882 El Camino, Sacramento, CA 95818. Mileage will be reimbursed at the Federal mileage reimbursement rate.
This position may have the opportunity to grow to 16 hours per week, selling at the Rancho Cordova Certified Farmers’ Market on Saturday mornings. If this opportunity becomes available, you will be able to decide whether or not to take on that additional work.
About the Role: The Farmers’ Market Sales Associate will promote the Alchemist Kitchen program and sell products made by entrepreneurs in the program. Alchemist Kitchen is a food business incubator which works with under-resourced entrepreneurs from the Sacramento region to start and grow successful food businesses. The Farmers’ Market Sales Associate will help both the program and individual businesses gain recognition among local Farmers’ Market shoppers. This role will not only directly handle on-site sales, but will function as a brand ambassador and will need to become conversant in explaining the Alchemist Kitchen program and telling the stories of the Incubated businesses.

Job Responsibilities: The Farmers’ Market Sales Associate will coordinate inventory and bring products from businesses in the Alchemist Kitchen Incubator Program to the Meadowview Certified Farmers’ Market and set up a booth to sell these products and promote the program.
Essential Functions:
Report to the Alchemist Kitchen commissary location first thing in the morning, follow written instructions to collect the printed inventory/price sign, tablet and credit card attachment, and designated items in boxes, bins, and/or ice chests to be sold at the market that day. Add designated ice packs/ice to the ice chests as directed. Load these items into your personal vehicle, lock and arm the alarm for the commissary.
Transport the market items to the Meadowview Certified Farmers’ Market. Set up a Farmers’ Market booth with an attractive display, as directed and without direct supervision. The canopy tent, table, chair, A-Frame sign, etc., will be stored at the market site for use and will not need to be transported by car.
Engage customers to sell products made by Alchemist Kitchen Incubator Program businesses
Promote the Alchemist Kitchen Incubator Program to potential participants or supporters
Process transactions using Square, Toast, cash, or CalFresh vouchers
Track inventory and file an inventory report to communicate to your supervisor which additional products need to be ordered for the following week
Break down and clean up the Farmers’ Market booth, returning equipment to the on-site storage container and appropriately packing up unsold products. Return designated items to the commissary kitchen and other end of day tasks as needed (ie sending inventory report, cleaning bins, etc.).
Requirements:
Possession of a valid California driver’s license and auto insurance that meets state minimum coverage requirements
Be eager to learn, grow, and collaborate with transparency

Outgoing personality who is not afraid to capture the attention of customers walking by
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for long periods
English fluency
Consistent, reliable automotive transportation with the ability to transport bins, boxes, and ice chests of products
Good with numbers, basic math and accuracy
Excellent time management skills
High level of professionalism
Strong verbal communication skills for professional interactions
Ability to take initiative and see tasks through to completion
Must be self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision
Experience working with diverse communities; knowledge of local demographics and resources
Consistently meets deadlines and arrives on time for scheduled shifts
A commitment to equity and social justice

Food lover
Experience selling products at a Farmers’ Market or similar event
