Considered the “Oscars of the food world,” the James Beard Foundation recognizes excellence across the food industry.
Emerging Chef Semifinalist
Steve Joo, Joodooboo
Clement St. Market and Grand Lake Market
Chef Steve Joo specializes in freshly made dooboo (Korean tofu) and hyper-seasonal banchan. His brick and mortar features hot foods, but you can purchase the dooboo and banchan at two of our markets.
Good Food Foundation
The Good Food Foundation recognizes “tasty, authentic and responsible" food and food makers.
Far West Cider is a product of a fourth generation family farm in San Joaquin County, California. They grow, harvest, and press all the fruit for fermenting on their 100 year old family farm. Nu Dry will is a dry apple cider, but the exact apple blend used to make it varies season to season.
Gold Ridge Organic Farms is located 50 miles northwest of San Francisco in the rolling hills of Sebastopol in Sonoma County, California. They farm over 75 varieties of heirloom apples, plus olives and citrus. Their apple cider balsamic vinegar is blended from their dessert quality apples and their hand-crafted apple cider syrup, then aged in oak barrels for two years.
Canteen’s four-person production team butchers, salt-cures, ages, and packages everything they sell. Their Culatta is salt cured, deboned, ham aged for a minimum of 15 months, developing a sweet and nutty flavor profile.
Wise Goat Organics
Fiery Fungi Kraut, Kraut-Chi, and Purple Carrot Kanji
Stonestown Market and Grand Lake Market
Wise Goat is a family and woman-owned business. They focus on sourcing ingredients from farmers within 20 miles of their commercial kitchen. Their Fiery Fungi Kraut features crimini, shiitake, maitake, and lion’s mane, while their Kraut-chi is similar to a traditional kimchi, with regular green cabbage swapped in for the Napa cabbage. The kanji is a naturally fermented tonic inspired by the traditional Indian drink.
